In addition to running this blog, my RVing with the Rakis blog and homeschooling full time, I also create and sell resources that teachers can use in their classrooms and home schooling parents can use to help out their children. To be fair, I am not creating nearly as many resources this year as I did in the past 9 years, for 2 reasons. Reason #1 – I already have over 500 resources available in my Teachers Pay Teachers store, so much of what I need for my kiddos I have created already. Reason #2 – I only have 3 students this year, so I have need of less resources. However, I am going through resources that I made while I was teaching in a classroom full time and “cleaning them up” with clearer teacher directions, better fonts, etc. I am also finishing out groupings or “series” that I have started and putting them into bundles so that teachers who are interested in buying multiple items from the same category have the opportunity to save some money. For the next few weeks, I am going to spotlight some of these bundles here on my blog.
Students who are learning English need to learn vocabulary. It helps them in reading, in writing, even in understanding math word problems. Of course after a year or two ESL students often appear to have a lot of vocabulary but are missing lots of words in comparison to their native English speaking peers. To address this issue, I spent a lot of my time in Morocco developing leveled vocabulary packets for my English Language Learners. By having four different levels, I could meet each of my students where they were instead of having some students lost while others were bored. For each level the students have five different activities where they practice spelling the words, identifying the words, using the words in sentences, and filling the words into blanks in passages using context clues.
Recently I have gone through my ESL Vocabulary Packets and created bundles that would be appropriate for specific units. I am also working on filling in some missing packets that will eventually create 8 solid units that can be taught over the course of the year. These bundles allow me to provide a discount for my customers, and ensures that I will be fully prepared if and when I return overseas to teach, or even decide to teach in a public school here in the US. I am ESL certified, so I would probably end up teaching ESL students no matter where I end up.
Here are the bundles I currently have available:
All About Me, which covers Body Parts, Emotions, Family, Clothing and Heritage
My World, which covers My School, My House, My Bathroom, My Bedroom and My Planet
In the Neighborhood, which covers Careers, Plants, Tools, Transportation and Weather
In the Kitchen, which covers Kitchen Items, Protein Foods, Grain Foods, Dairy Foods and Fruits and Vegetables
I hope these packets can help you and your students. Happy teaching and learning!
