Keep Kids Safe on the Internet

It’s time for the Wednesday Website suggestion!! For two years, I was the Technology Specialist at a school in Georgia. During that time, I amassed a large collection of websites that I use with my students. If you want to search through some of them, you can check out my IKeepBookmarks site. Or, you can check back here each week for the Wednesday Website suggestion.

The internet can be a powerful tool for teaching, but Internet Safety Lesson for Kidsjust like anything meant for grown ups, we need to teach kids how to use it safely and responsibly.  There are lots of ways to do this with your students.  I have a powerpoint lessons at my Teachers Pay Teachers store Internet Safety Lesson for Adultsthat addresses this topic  - both for kids and adults.  There are also great websites that address the topic of Internet Safety in a way that kids can understand.

My favorite website on this topic is called Cyber Pigs.  This website provides kids with 2 different interactive videos/games on Internet Safety using three teenage aged pigs who are surfing the web.  The first “episode” Cyber Pigs Website to Teach Internet Safety to Kidsaddresses the importance of keeping your personal information private.  The second “episode” addresses cyber-bullying and evaluating the sources of your information carefully.  This website is great to do whole group with your students, or to assign to your computer center with a reflection sheet.

Hope you enjoyed this Wednesday’s Website suggestion – check back each Wednesday for a new Wednesday's Website suggestion and click HERE to view previous Website suggestions.
